The Ocean Conservation Summit (TOCS) 2025 concluded in Singapore on Friday, after two days of high-level dialogue and innovation-driven exchanges aimed at shaping a sustainable marine future.

Enayetullah Khan, Editor-in-Chief of UNB and President of the Bangladesh Chapter of The International SeaKeepers Society, represented Bangladesh at the Summit.

The two-day summit, held on 2-3 October, brought together global experts, policymakers, business leaders, investors, scientists and environmental advocates to chart the future of ocean conservation. Cosmos Foundation was among the supporters of the event hosted by The International SeaKeepers Society Asia.

The event opened with keynote addresses by Singapore's Minister of State Alvin Tan, and world-renowned aquanaut Fabien Cousteau, who called for bold global action to protect oceans.

Innovative solutions showcases exploring the role of AI, big data and robotics in marine sustainability, along with sessions on aligning business and policy, advancing waste management solutions and a design-thinking workshop led by Cousteau were among the first day's highlights.

The second day focused on restorative and inclusive conservation. Simon Bernard of Plastic Odyssey shared insights from their global plastic-reduction expedition, followed by Dr Daniel Mira-Salama of the World Bank on climate-resilient coastal communities.

Dr Jarina Mohd Jani, a Human Ecology teacher at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, showcased how Orang Seletar, a coastal indigenous community, offers vital traditional knowledge for ocean conservation. Known as 'sea people', their culture, identity and livelihoods are deeply tied to the ocean, providing insights that science alone cannot.

Philanthropy's role in ensuring equity in ocean sustainability was also discussed before the summit concluded with closing remarks from Cousteau and Julian Chang, President of The International SeaKeepers Society Asia.

With the SeaKeepers Bangladesh chapter working to raise awareness, mobilise communities and advocate for responsible ocean stewardship, its President Enayetullah Khan's participation underscored Bangladesh's growing engagement in global marine sustainability efforts.
